Tipping The Performer!
Many clients have asked me in the past what our policy is on tipping performers.
While we feel that tips are a great way to show your appreciation, we know that every event and every customer is unique, so we leave this decision up to them. What we can offer are some tips:
Although tips are not mandatory, and not expected, they are greatly appreciated. In my past experiences, i have received additional compensation on top of my performance fee about 50% of the time.
So if you find yourself blown away by a performance, or exceptionally satisfied with an entertainer’s professionalism and chemistry with their audience, a tip is a great way to show your thanks.
When it comes to the actual “mechanics” of tipping, you might consider simply adding some extra cash to your payment, whether by cash or check, at the end of your event. If you have already paid your performer in full before the event has taken place, you could offer an envelope with cash or check as the performer leaves.
When calculating the tip, this amount is truly up to the client. If you are more comfortable with offering a percentage based on the performance fee, most performers have agreed that anywhere from 5% to 20% of the overall price is appropriate.
Also, if you are attending a public event at a restaurant or bar, and a tip jar is visible, show the performer some love.
Overall, tipping should not be a worrisome topic if you are hiring entertainment for your event. I am always happy to do what I do best – entertaining! Offering additional payment is thought of as encouragement and positive reinforcement. Performers understand budget constraints and the recession has hit the entertainment industry the way it has hit everyone else. If you can tip – that’s great. If not, that’s OK too!
If you cant afford to tip your performer, alternative options are:
-leaving feedback or a review on yelp, google places, yahoo local, or their website.
- sending pictures of Silly Ricky in action at your event
-Spreading the word about Silly Ricky to your co-workers, colleagues, family and friends!
And as always, Thank you very VERY much for taking your time to read this!
